This is the last part of the series of posts regarding step by step installation process. In this post, we will do validation and verification of the installation process completed in previous posts. Refer to part-1, part-2 and part-3, in case you landed directly on this page.

4-  Verification of the installation

The Oracle R Enterprise server installation script creates log files in the server sub directory of the installation directory. Examine the log files to verify the success of the installation process.

If there are problems with the installation and you are unable to resolve them, you can request help from My Oracle Support or from the Oracle R Enterprise discussion forum.

4.1-  Start R Console

Run R x64 3.3.0 from the Windows Start menu.

4.2-  Start Oracle R Enterprise (ORE)

Execute command library(ORE) to start Oracle R Enterprise

4.3-  Connect to Oracle R Enterprise (ORE) server

Execute ore.connect() command to connect to the Oracle R Enterprise server and to validate the connection. If the connection is successful, the command returns TRUE. Provide the necessary credentials as required. If ruser1 is locked or required a new password then login to database as dba and do it.

4.4-  Basic Validation

4.4.1 Listing the database tables accessible to ruser1

As of now no table is accessible.

4.4.2 Pushing an R Data Frame to a database table

The ore.push command pushes an R data frame to a database table or a database table to an R data frame. For example:

4.4.3 Executing an Embedded R Function

The ore.doEval command schedules execution of the specified function in the database-embedded R engine and returns the results.

Above error indicates that RQADMIN role is not granted. To resolve this login to database as dba and grant RQADMIN to ruser1 and execute the command again in R.

Oops… error again!

PLS-00201: identifier 'SYS.RQSCRIPTCREATE' must be declared ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored ORA-06512: at "RQSYS.RQ$ORESCRIPTCREATE", line 7 ORA-06512: at line 1

Solution:  Since a new role is granted to R therefore close R console and open again. Execute the commands as shown in below screenshot.

4.4.4 Listing the Oracle R Enterprise Demo Scripts

The Oracle R Enterprise demo scripts are located in $ORACLE_HOME/R/library/ORE/demo.

The demo command provides a list of available demos:

Here is the output:

4.4.5 Executing Oracle R Enterprise Demo Scripts

You can further verify the success of the installation by running some of the Oracle R Enterprise demo scripts.

If a script runs to completion without errors, then the demo is successful.

demo("aggregate", package="ORE")

Executing the aggregate Demo (partial output)

4.4.6 Executing the row_apply demo

Executing the row_apply Demo (partial output)

4.4.7 Executing the cor demo

Executing the cor Demo (partial output)

4.4.8 Executing the step-wise Demo

Executing the step-wise Demo (partial output)

This completes the installation process and concludes our series of posts on the installation of Oracle R Enterprise (ORE) on IBM AIX server and client as windows.

Cheers :)
